While We're Young

Being young means we think a lot about the concept of someday. So much can be done “someday”, like owning a house, running your own business, raising your own family, graduating college and working in your dream career choice. As much as I enjoy dwelling on the future, there is an important thing that we can’t forget; there is still time between now and our someday, and we don’t know how much. The reason it’s important is because we can get so wrapped up in the idea that we will only be happy when our dreams are realized. We put so much weight on the future to bring us joy, that we will not feel happy until it comes. But then begs the question, what about right now? Our future happiness has the ability to become a thief of what could be the pure joy that God has for you now.

The way that I envisioned my life, isn’t what it looks like right now. My dream is to be a health and wellness coach and a writer. While I believe that God will get me there, because of His love and His desire for me to reach my full potential, He is not going to let me breeze over vital parts of my life that will grow me and teach me to surrender everything to Him. Through surrender, I’ve learned that Jesus is true freedom. Not money, not power, not circumstance.

For myself, because I am not working in my expected field right now at 23, I’ve battled with believing that I am a failure. But now I see, I’m where God wants me. And you are where God wants you too. Now if that's somewhere that puts you under some pressure, put your faith in God and know that it’s ok. As the apostle Paul says, rejoice in the face of adversity, because God is using it to grow you to your potential.

In our young adult life, we learn as I said earlier, vital lessons. Surrender, compassion, patience, humility, trust, and nearness with the Lord. Where I am now, even though I am pressed, is to prepare me for what the Lord has to come. It takes time and practice to be able to discern what He is doing, and you most likely will not even get the full picture right away, but just listen and live knowing that He knows what He is doing.

It is my hope that you find some encouragement in this. You are succeeding where you are right now. Kingdom success doesn’t look like loads of money or fame. It doesn’t look like the recognition of man. It looks like being a good and faithful servant, being a son or daughter of God and discovering more about Him each day.
